By Confederations Cup Opening, Domodedovo to Launch Passenger Tracking System at Preflight Security
May 16, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow's Moscow Domodedovo Airport has started the trial operation of the Passenger Access Control (PAC) system, which automatically uses the barcode on the boarding pass to determine the departure segment of the air traveler and checks the status of the flight. The introduction of PAC will help guide the passengers more quickly to the appropriate departure gate. Presently, this is the first experience with the system in the Moscow Aviation Hub.
«The passenger traffic at Moscow Domodedovo Airport is growing, and travelers increasingly prefer self check-in to save their time. According to a SITA study, already this year, 12% of passengers will use mobile apps to check in. With the PAC system, we will be able to improve that service by making self check-in, including on a mobile device, more simple and convenient. Besides, the new solution will strengthen aviation security in the airport terminal,» commented Mr. Oleg Korshunov, PAC Project Manager at Domodedovo Integration.
One of the advantages of PAC is the ability to record the time of the passenger's entry into the pre-flight security, customs and passport control zones of the airport. In addition, the system has following functions:
- tracking the passenger in the terminal, which is important where the passenger fails to show up on time for boarding. Thus, the search for passengers potentially delaying the flight will be quicker, which will reduce the likelihood of flight delays for that reason;
- preventing access to the departure gate by passengers whose flight has already departed or whose flight departs from an airport other than Domodedovo.
Initially, the airport will install 16 turnstiles in sectors A and B at the entrance to the international departures area. A total of 41 workstations with scanners have been installed for airport agents, security inspectors, police, and customs officers.
The system will be put into commercial operation during the Confederations Cup in 2017. Earlier, Moscow's Moscow Domodedovo Airport successfully passed the inspections by FIFA and Russia-2018 World Cup Organizing Committee of its infrastructure and processes and is ready to welcome the teams participating in the World Cup.
