Order issued authorizing commercial operation of aircraft at Domodedovo Airport. |
1963 |
Airport maintenance facilities set up. Orders issued authorizing cargo flights to and from Domodedovo Airport and scheduled postal flights to and from Domodedovo Airport. Domodedovo Airfield listed on the State Register of USSR Civil Airfields, certificate of registration and fitness for operation issued. |
1964 |
Passenger flights from Moscow Domodedovo Airport started. On March 25, the first flight Domodedovo - Sverdlovsk - Domodedovo performed. Flights opened to Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Tashkent, Frunze, Almaty, Bishkek, Dushanbe, Karaganda. Official opening of Domodedovo Airport Terminal. |

The program was approved by the Government of Moscow Region and Federal Aviation Service of the Russian Federation. Full-scale reconstruction of Domodedovo airport terminal completed. |

CIS Civil Aviation Aeroport Association nominates Moscow Domodedovo Airport "The Best Airport in CIS." |
2001 |
Public rapid rail system put into operation connecting the airport with Paveletsky Rail Terminal in the center of Moscow. |
2002 |
Passenger traffic growth at Moscow Domodedovo Airport called by the authoritative British magazine Airline Business the highest of the world's 150 largest airports. |
2003 |
Domodedovo Airport Terminal received ISO 9001-2000 certificate evidencing the high level of organization and management of airport operations. Moscow Domodedovo Airport becomes one of the world's 100 leading airports. |
2004 |
Passenger traffic reached 12.07 mn per year. Expansion of the passenger Terminal launched. Moscow Domodedovo Airport became the Moscow aviation hub's leader in terms of passenger traffic. |
2005 |
Total passenger traffic for the year totaled 13.96 mn. The average passenger traffic growth exceeded 15%. After reconstruction of the second runway, the airfield was certified to the International Air Transport Association ICAO standard CAT III A, allowing takeoff and landing in adverse weather conditions. As a result of the audit by the Transportation Security Administration of the United States, a protocol was signed on conformity of the aviation security standard at Moscow Domodedovo Airport to the US and ICAO regulations. |
2006 |
In the ACI EUROPE (European branch of the Airports Council International) rating, Moscow Domodedovo Airport maintained its leading position in terms of passenger traffic among the Moscow aviation hub airports and became the fastest growing airport in Europe with passenger traffic of 10 to 25 mn passengers a year. Runway 1 reconstructed. |
2007 |
Technology, pavement, and equipment are the only of their kind in Russia. Based on a survey of eight million passengers worldwide, the independent company Skytrax (UK) specializing in research in the aviation industry called Moscow Domodedovo Airport one of the three best airports of Central and Eastern Europe. Automatic baggage sorting system commissioned, which significantly increased the efficiency of baggage handling and the quality of passenger service. |
2008 |
Audit by the Transportation Security Administration of the United States confirmed that the aviation security standard at Moscow Domodedovo Airport met the US and ICAO regulations. Runway 1 at Moscow Domodedovo Airport certified to ICAO CAT III A. In a survey of passengers conducted by the independent company Skytrax (UK), Moscow Domodedovo Airport remained the best airport in Central and Eastern Europe. The high-tech infrastructure of Moscow Domodedovo Airport made it the only Russian airport authorized to receive and handle the world's largest passenger aircraft Airbus A380. For the first time in the history of the Russian civil aviation, Airbus A380 Superjumbo landed at Domodedovo. |
2009 |
Moscow Domodedovo Airport launched simultaneous independent takeoff from both runways in accordance with ICAO standards and recommended practices. In the annual international competition World Airport Awards held by Skytrax, Moscow Domodedovo Airport was named one of the three best airports in Eastern Europe. For the first time in Russia, an airfield multilateration system (MLAT) was installed, ensuring reliable ground movement control of aircraft and special vehicles in all weather conditions, anywhere on the airfield. |
2010 |
International Air Transport Association (IATA) awarded Moscow Domodedovo Airport the Platinum status in recognition of the successful implementation of the two-dimensional flight information bar coding technology on boarding passes. According to the rating of the independent research company Skytrax (UK), Moscow Domodedovo Airport was the best airport in Eastern Europe. Ground handling safety audit (ISAGO) by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) confirmed compliance of ground handling at Moscow Domodedovo airport with the international safety standards. |
2011 |
Induction system introduced for better services to passengers with impaired hearing. The system installed in 9 areas of the Terminal. Annual passenger traffic exceeded 25 mn allowing Moscow Domodedovo Airport to become one of Europe's largest airports in ACI (Airports Council International) classification. At the international competition World Airport Awards (Skytrax), passengers voted Moscow Domodedovo Airport the best airport in Eastern Europe. Moscow Domodedovo Airport celebrated its 50th anniversary. |
2012 |
Automatic Self Boarding Gate implemented in a test mode allowing to optimize timing of passenger handling and improve the quality of the services provided. Moscow Domodedovo Airport was the first among Russian airports to offer maintenance on a regular basis of the latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner operated by JAL and the world's largest A380 operated by Emirates. Moscow Domodedovo Airport's ground handling units were certified for compliance with the international standard ISO 9001:2008 for quality management in ground handling of passengers and baggage. According to the independent consulting company Skytrax, Moscow Domodedovo Airport kept its ranking as the best airport in Eastern Europe. The number of air travelers who have chosen Moscow Domodedovo Airport over its entire period of operation reached 500 million. |
2013 |
Moscow Domodedovo Airport and the international company SITA implemented the project Airport Hub Wireless, allowing partner airlines to transmit process data via wi-fi. According to the rating of the independent research company Skytrax (UK), Moscow Domodedovo Airport was the best airport in Eastern Europe. Moscow Domodedovo Airport won Skytrax World Airport Awards: air travelers from around the world voted the airport the best in Russia and CIS. |
2014 |
Opening ceremony of the atrium - the largest facility of its kind in the country's transport industry - was held at Moscow Domodedovo Airport. Construction started of the second segment of the passenger Terminal and of a new runway 2. |
2015 |
A unique architectural project was implemented within the framework of a plan to expand the passenger Terminal. In addition, a new terminal segment for passengers on international flights in the international arrivals and departures area (Sector E). Moscow Domodedovo Airport successfully passed the audit for compliance with ISO 9001:2008 international standard of ground handling quality management and a relevant certificate was issued. Moscow Domodedovo Airport put into operation a unique central video surveillance system (CVSS), whose technical specifications are unparalleled in Russia. More than 4500 investors could get acquainted with the project Aerotropolis DME at the largest international real estate exhibition MIPIM 2015 in Cannes. At the Air Portal to Russia awards ceremony, held for the first time, Moscow Domodedovo Airport was named the best metropolitan airport in the Special Passenger Prize nomination. At the international competition World Airport Awards (Skytrax), passengers voted Moscow Domodedovo Airport the best airport in Russian and CIS. |
2016 |
The aviation training center at Moscow Domodedovo Airport got accredited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as part of the TRAINAIR PLUS Program. This allows holding ICAO training courses at the airport and integrating training materials into the airport’s corporate knowledge base. Moscow Domodedovo Airport won at the 2nd National Awards — Russia's Air Gateway in the special category Investments in the Talent Pool. The award went to the large-scale talent development project Influx. The security system at Moscow Domodedovo Airport successfully passed audit by the US Transportation Security Administration. As a result of the audit, TSA issued a protocol evidencing compliance with the security standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Ground handling safety audit confirmed compliance of the ground handling procedures at Moscow Domodedovo Airport with IATA standards, and an ISAGO certificate was issued. Fitch Ratings kept Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s credit rating at BB+. Moscow Domodedovo Airport welcomed the first Singapore — Moscow flight by an Airbus A350-900 operated by Singapore Airlines. Moscow Domodedovo Airport was the first in Russia to handle scheduled A350 flights. For the seventh time, Moscow Domodedovo Airport confirmed its status as the best airport in Russia and the CIS in a rating by the independent agency Skytrax in the category The Best Airport in Russia and CIS. |
2017 |
Moscow Domodedovo Airport ranked in Russia's Air Gateway rating as the best airport in Russia. Moscow Domodedovo Airport won in two categories at the 20th Anniversary Wings of Russia Awards. Moscow Domodedovo Airport won in the categories Airport of the Year 2016 and The Past Two Decades' Best Project in Civil Aviation. On April 7, Moscow Domodedovo Airport celebrated its 55th anniversary. Moscow Domodedovo Airport ranked in the top 5 of Europe's fastest growing airports by passenger traffic in the first six months of 2017, according to Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe). The international rating agency Fitch Ratings kept the credit rating of DME Group at ВВ+ with a stable outlook. Analytical Credit Rating Agency (ACRA) assigned a credit rating of A+ (RU) with a stable outlook to DME Group. |
2018 |
According to Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), Moscow Domodedovo Airport is one of the three leading European airports in terms of the route network growth. A multi-level indoor parking for 1,500 cars was put into operation in a walking distance from the Terminal. The total capacity of the eight parking lots at Moscow Domodedovo Airport has reached 6,500 parking spaces. The talent development program Influx won the first prize at the 3rd Russian national competition GRADUATE AWARDS in the category The Best Student Recruitment Program. Tax refund offices for foreign citizens opened in the Terminal. Moscow Domodedovo Airport was the first in Russia to conduct a pilot trial of an automated facial recognition system. During the trial, the identification accuracy was higher than 90%. In 2018, Moscow Domodedovo Airport expanded its digital services offering for travel planning: tickets.dme.ru covers now charter flights, the hotel booking service hotels.dme.ru has launched and offers rooms at 900,000 hotels and more than 80,000 destinations around the world, travel insurance products are available at insur.dme.ru. |
2019 |
Moscow Domodedovo Airport was officially named after the great scientist M.V. Lomonosov. An automobile overpass with a zone for embarkation and disembarkation of passengers with a capacity of 28,000 vehicles per day was opened in front of the airport terminal. The western atrium in the area of domestic flights was opened. A new lounge designed to accommodate 50 people at the same time has been opened for PRM passengers Domodedovo Airport was the first in Russia to start serving passengers using electronic boarding passes. To do this, the airport has introduced automated turnstiles that recognize 2D barcodes and QR codes on both paper and electronic media. In December, the airport stepped over a new milestone in its history - 700,000,000 passengers chose Domodedovo for travel. |
2020 |
Domodedovo Airport implemented a set of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection COVID-19: Hand disinfection points have been organized for passengers in the arrival and departure areas of domestic and international flights. Floor visualization was organized to ensure a social distance of 1.5 meters in the passenger check-in area, as well as during the pre-flight inspection. The frequency of sanitizing airport premises with the use of special disinfectants has been increased. Antiseptic compounds with antiviral activity are used. All aircrafts arriving at Domodedovo Airport are disinfected. Disinfection of equipment involved in passenger service is carried out on a regular basis. Airport employees were briefed on the topic of preventing the spread of a new type of coronavirus infection and measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Passengers and visitors can take a test for the COVID-19 pathogen, as well as take an analysis for antibodies to COVID-19 at the medical center of Domodedovo Airport around the clock. |
2021 |
A new Aeroexpress terminal connected by a pedestrian gallery with the terminal building was opened. Airports Council International (ACI World) named Domodedovo the best airport in Europe with a passenger flow of 25 to 40 million people in 2020. The airport was included in the rating of the best employers in Russia according to Forbes. The in-flight catering facility of the Moscow Domodedovo Airport entered retail market. The “ready-to-eat” products are sold in the supermarkets of Perekrestok retail chain, in Samokat online retailer in Moscow and St. Petersburg. |
