In-Situ Concreting Close to Completion at Another Segment of Domodedovo T2 Passenger Terminal

Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport has announced preliminary 2016 construction progress of a new segment of the passenger terminal T2.

In December 2016, in-situ concreting of the structure's reinforced concrete frame was completed. The project is progressing according to schedule. Rotating construction teams are working 24/7. The construction site employs more than 1,900 personnel, 30 units of construction machinery, and 7 tower cranes.

Current project implementation phases:

  • Construction of pit channels - service "corridors" used to connect aircraft to power supply, ventilation, sewerage, potable and technical water supply systems - has started. This is the first ever implementation of the technology in Russia - at the moment, ground handling at all Russian airports is done with ground equipment.

  • Installation of the utilities - air ducts, heating and ventilation systems - and laying of power supply cables and other utility lines has started. To complete these tasks, another 1 thousand workers will be mobilized at the construction site.

  • Steel structures, including large-span steel trusses forming the frame of the terminal main facade, are being installed.

  • Installation work on the ramp facades (glazing) along the entire passenger terminal is nearing completion. In the spring of 2017, one year before the official opening of T2, the shell, core, and utilities phase is expected to be completed.

When the project is completed, the combined floor space of the airport terminal will increase almost twice - to 235,000 m2. After completion of the current terminal expansion project, the combined terminal floor space will reach 500,000 m2. Total annual passenger capacity of the airport terminals (T1 + T2) will exceed 45 million passengers.

The new terminal segment will have 7 floors, two of them underground. Separation of arriving and departing passenger flows is envisaged.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is one of Russia's largest aviation hubs. In 2015, the airport handled 30.5 million passengers. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been rated by Skytrax as the best airport in Russia and the CIS. Members of the world's leading airline alliances - Star Alliance and oneworld - have chosen Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport for their flights to and from Moscow.
