In Autumn and Winter, Passenger Traffic at Moscow Domodedovo Airport Grew 3.5%
April 20, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport, ranked the best in Russia, published its performance indicators in the autumn-winter period. Passenger traffic at the airport grew 3.5% compared to same period last season and totaled 9.6 million passengers.
The autumn-winter navigation period witnessed a steady increase in the performance on international flights - the increase in the passenger traffic was 5.3% year-on-year. The most popular international destination in the autumn-winter season was Dubai. 267,000 passengers traveled to UAE's largest city and back via Moscow Domodedovo Airport. Destinations with the most spectacular passenger traffic growth were Dusseldorf, Punta Cana, and Istanbul. The total passenger traffic on international flights was 3.9 million.
The market trend towards growth in travel to destinations in Asia is evidenced by the impressive passenger traffic on the route Sanya (Phoenix) - Moscow (Domodedovo) - Sanya (Phoenix). The route opened last season and quickly became the leader among the new destinations. Over the past period, more than 28,000 passengers took the opportunity to fly to Hainan from Domodedovo Airport. During the autumn-winter navigation period, 13 destinations were added to the airport's route network, including Palma de Mallorca, Djerba, Enfidha, Agadir, Turin, Varadero.
Positive dynamics in the autumn-winter period was also seen in the domestic flights segment - passenger traffic grew 2.2% year-on-year. The most popular destination was Simferopol - over 440,000 passengers traveled on flights to and from Crimea. The most popular domestic routes that demonstrated the highest passenger traffic growth rates in the autumn-winter period were Krasnodar, Ufa, and Krasnoyarsk. Roughly 5.7 million travelers chose Moscow Domodedovo Airport for domestic flights in the past season.
