Moscow Domodedovo Airport Has Made Baggage Handling Greener

July 6, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport, ranked the best in Russia, has implemented environmentally friendly and efficient baggage handling technologies for arriving flights.

A new baggage belt with 30% lower energy consumption has been installed in the international arrivals area. This was achieved through the use of motors of the European highest energy efficiency class IE4 and innovative engineering solutions - a new kinematic design with a simplified control unit (fewer rollers - fewer belt bends - lower energy consumption) and low-friction belt.

Moscow's Moscow Domodedovo Airport continuously works on implementing environmentally friendly technologies. For instance, more than a third of the airport's self-propelled passenger step fleet have heavy-duty batteries, preventing the emission of harmful substances into the air and reducing soil contamination with heavy metals.

Switch to LED lighting has reduced by 70% the energy consumption at Moscow Domodedovo Airport's facilities and the environmental footprint by eliminating the use of mercury lamps classified as extremely hazardous waste. To reduce waste water and soil contamination, the airport has implemented an innovative technology - bioreactors at all of its storm sewer outlets.
