DME Trials Internet of Things for Monitoring of Special Vehicles
August 15, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has started a trial of Internet of Things in operations monitoring.
«Our special vehicle fleet will be equipped with sensors monitoring the vehicle's operation on the airfield and its technical status, including fuel consumption, mileage, speed, door opening/closing, air temperature in the shuttle buses, etc. 25 multifunctional devices designed for various vehicle types will send data to the controller. The new system allows monitoring and measuring quality and on-time performance in the handling of aircraft and passengers»,— explained Ms. Alesya Belykh, Project Manager at Domodedovo Integration.
The project is part of the automation strategy of the airport's operations. The new IT product provides detailed information about the operations carried out by the vehicles on the airfield. The controller can in real time monitor the progress of tasks and, if necessary, redirect assets to other operations. Thus, the resource allocation time and the utilization rate will improve.
The multifunctional monitoring system will also minimize the risk of accidents. Individual ramp vehicle types will be equipped with indicative sensors capable of blocking the vehicle if there is threat to take-off and landing operations.
Currently, the on-board modules are being installed on the vehicle fleet and tested. DME's special vehicle fleet has approximately 800 vehicles - passenger steps, apron buses, pushback tugs, including those for the world's largest passenger jet airliner Аirbus 380, and others. The entire fleet will be connected to the automated monitoring system. Currently, more than 200 vehicles are fully equipped with the necessary sensors and modules. Controllers are monitoring them in the test mode.
For this project, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has partnered with Space Team, a developer of navigation services. Space Team is a Russian innovative vertically integrated group of companies, a leading vendor and system integrator in the market of transportation telematics and satellite navigation.
