Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Japan Airlines Celebrated 50 Years of Flights from Moscow to Tokyo

April 18, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Japan Airlines celebrated 50 years of flights on the Moscow - Tokyo route.

The history of flights between the capitals of Russia and Japan began on April 17, 1967. The first flight was on a TU-114 aircraft and the flight time was longer than 10.5 hours. Half a century later, Japan Airlines performed an anniversary flight from Moscow Domodedovo Airport on a modern comfortable Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Flight time was less than nine hours.

«Together with our long-time partner Japan Airlines, we marked a significant milestone, primarily in the history of air travel between the two nations. It is noteworthy that the official event celebrating the 50 years of flights on the Moscow to Tokyo route were held on the eve of the Year of Japan in Russia. I am convinced that the fruitful cooperation between Domodedovo and Japan Airlines contributes to the preservation and strengthening of cultural and diplomatic relations between the two countries,» said Mr. Alexey Rayevsky, Deputy Chief Commercial Officer at Moscow Domodedovo Airport.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport respects the traditions of its partners. For the 50th anniversary of flights on the Moscow to Tokyo route, the chef at Domodedovo Catering created special desserts that were offered exclusively to the passengers of the anniversary flight.

In their work, Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Japan Airlines focus, first of all, on passenger comfort. Cooperation between the airport and the airline began in 2007. Over that period, 412,000 passengers traveled on the route. Over nearly ten years, Domodedovo International and Japan Airlines have been offering their passengers a high level of service, as evidenced by the steadily growing passenger traffic. The past five years have demonstrated that the number of travelers choosing Russia's best airport and Japan's flag carrier has been growing by an average of 10% per year.
