ACI's Airport Service Quality recognized Domodedovo as the best airport in Europe
The International Airports Council (ACI World) has awarded Moscow Domodedovo Airport as the best airport in Europe with a traffic from 25 to 40 million passengers in 2021.
In 2021, restrictions on the flight program were still in effect due to the spread of coronavirus infection, but despite this, Domodedovo Airport, as well as aviation in general, was moving along the path of recovery — new services for passengers appeared, infrastructure was improved, new types of business were opened.
Last year, flights to the resort cities of Egypt were resumed. Domodedovo has started cooperating with new airlines - Air Cairo and AlMasria, which operate flights to Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh. Partner airlines resumed regular flights from the airport: SriLankan Airlines - to Colombo, Uzbekistan Airways began operating flights to Tashkent, Bukhara, Namangan, Fergana, Urgench, Termez, Nukus, Air Manas - to Bishkek.
In the summer of 2021, a new Aeroexpress terminal was opened at Domodedovo Airport, which is connected to the airport terminal by a pedestrian gallery.
Domodedovo was the first among Russian airports to provide international Certificates of COVID-19 vaccination in Russian, English, German and French, as well as a Vaccination Passport in accordance with WHO standards.
In 2021, the number of commercial facilities in the airport terminal increased by 11% — new cafes and restaurants, as well as retail outlets opened.
The inflight catering facility of Moscow Domodedovo Airport has entered retail market. Now the ready-to-eat products of the company are sold in supermarkets of the Perekrestok retail chain in Moscow region, as well as in the online retailer Samokat. Breakfasts and snacks can be purchased at Wildberries and OZON marketplaces.
According to the assessment of the Airport Council Association Europe (ACI Europe), in the first quarter of 2021 Domodedovo became the second busiest airport in Europe. In August, the airport updated the historical maximum for this indicator on domestic flights, and by the end of the year it entered the top five busiest air hubs of Europe.
The award of the best airport in Europe is awarded based on the results of the ACI's Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey, a globally recognized comparative analysis program that evaluates passengers' satisfaction during their journey through the airport. In 2021, ASQ conducted more than 370,000 detailed passenger surveys, during which 88 airports around the world received 111 awards. The survey covers key indicators: availability of check-in, security, passport control, provision of services to passengers, navigation, sanitary preventive measures.
