Domodedovo Again Voted Best Russian Airport
Visitors to Travel.ru portal
have for the third time voted Moscow Domodedovo Airport the winner of the
annual tourist award Travel.ru Star in the category "Best Russian
Airport."
The only of its kind
consumer award in tourism has turned seven years. Since its inception, the
winners are chosen by online voting. In 2009, more than 9,000 Internet users
took part in the vote. Among its Russian competitors, Moscow Domodedovo Airport
has traditionally left far behind the other candidates for the award in its
category. Among global airports, Singapore Changi Airport was voted the best.
The winners also included
airline partners of Moscow Domodedovo Airport.
For the third time,
Singapore Airlines was voted the best on the routes to Southeast Asia,
Australia, and Oceania. For the fifth consecutive year, Emirates, operating
flights to the Middle East and Asia, won Travel.com Star award. Lufthansa
consolidated its last year's success by keeping its leadership on routes to
Europe, Central and South America. Transaero Airlines received the award for the
first time for its flights to continental Africa and for the fourth time as the
best charter carrier.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is
the largest in terms of passenger traffic in Russia. Its share of the air
passenger traffic via Moscow is 46%. Currently, 78 airlines operate flights
from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to 220 global destinations, 89 of which are
unique in Moscow Region. Among the partners are 34 foreign airlines, 28
Russian, and 16 CIS airlines. In 2009, Moscow Domodedovo Airport handled 18.7
million passengers.
