Fast Travel: Moscow Domodedovo Airport the First in Russia to Receive Green Status in IATA's Fast Travel Program

On September 17, 2015, Moscow Domodedovo Airport became the first in Russia to receive the Green status in the Fast Travel program by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The certificate was issued on behalf of Mr. Rafael Schwartzman, IATA Vice-President in Europe.

This status confirms that at least one airline partner of the airport offers its passengers three mandatory and at least one additional self-service opportunities under the Fast Travel program.

Mandatory Fast Travel services include:

  • check-in - the passenger can herself get the boarding pass, including online;
  • bags-ready-to-go - the passenger can herself check in the baggage and print the baggage tags;
  • light rebooking - simplified and streamlined booking procedures and notifying the passengers of delayed or canceled flights.

Of the additional functions required for the Green status, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has implemented a self-service procedure for filing a lost baggage claim.

According to IATA surveys, about 75% of air travelers expect a greater choice of self-service opportunities at airports. The Fast Travel program is aimed at reducing passenger time lost at check-in. According to IATA, implementation of the best practices of the fast travel concept will save the air transport industry more than US$ 2.1 billion a year.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport received the award at the 6th International Air Transport Exhibition and Conference - Airport Ground Handling - 2015, hosted by ATO Events.

Earlier, IATA awarded Moscow Domodedovo Airport the Platinum status in the Simplifying the Business program.

Moscow Domodedovo Airport is Russia's largest aviation hub. In 2014, the airport handled 33.04 million passengers. According to Skytrax rating, it is the best airport in Russia and the CIS. Members of the world's leading airline alliances - Star Alliance and oneworld - have chosen Moscow's Domodedovo International Airport for their flights to and from Moscow.
