Moscow Domodedovo Airport Passenger Traffic Continues to Grow
February 16, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport, ranked the best airport in Russia,* reported its performance indicators in January 2017. In the first month of 2017,the air passenger traffic through the airport amounted to 2,089,356 - a 2.1% increase year-on-year.
Commenting on the performance in January, Alexey Rayevsky, the airport's Deputy Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Since November 2016 we have been witnessing an increase in the Domodedovo passenger traffic, in spite of the difficult market conditions. The prerequisite for the growth in the airport's operating performance is the upward trend in the revenue loads on the flights operated by our Russian and foreign partner airlines in all market segments."
Demand growth is observed for both domestic and international destinations. In January 2017, domestic air passenger traffic reached 1,211,037 - a 0.6% increase year-on-year. Of those, 259,000 passengers flew from Domodedovo to Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, Barnaul, St. Petersburg. Passenger traffic on these routes was 24.4% higher than in the same period last year.
International air passenger traffic reached 878,000 - a 4.3% increase compared to January 2016. In the first month of 2017, tourist destinations were most popular. In January 2017, Dubai, Antalya, Dusseldorf, Punta Cana, and Sanya led in terms of passenger traffic growth. In 2017, more than 103,000 passengers flew these routes - 1.8 times the 2016 level.
The increase in air cargo traffic in January 2017 is also worth mentioning - cargo traffic grew 16% compared to the same period last year and exceeded 9,800 tons.
