Moscow Domodedovo Airport improved operating performance in February 2017
March 16, 2017, Domodedovo, Moscow Region. Moscow Domodedovo Airport ranked the best airport in Russia reported its performance indicators in February 2017. Air passenger traffic in the reporting period was 1,817,757 passengers, which is 3.4% higher than in February 2016. Total passenger traffic through Moscow Domodedovo Airport in the first two months of 2017 was 3.91 million passengers - a 2.7% growth on a year-on-year basis.
Commenting on the performance in February, Alexey Rayevsky, the airport's Deputy Chief Commercial Officer, said: "Through joint efforts to open new destinations with our partner airlines, we have succeeded in maintaining passenger traffic growth at Moscow Domodedovo Airport. February's positive trend is particularly noticeable for the new destinations opened in this autumn-winter season. These include Sanya, Dusseldorf, and Varadero."
In this January-February, the volume of domestic air passenger traffic is unchanged compared to 2016. In the first two months of 2017, 2.31 million passengers took domestic flights via Moscow Domodedovo Airport. Destinations leading in terms of passengers carried recorded the highest growth rates. In 2017, the demand for flights to Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, Barnaul, and St. Petersburg grew 23.3% year-on-year. Passenger traffic carried by these flights totaled 484,000.
In February 2017, international passenger traffic through Moscow Domodedovo Airport grew by 11.1% to 722,000 passengers. In January-February, the total number of travelers to international destinations from Moscow Domodedovo Airport grew to 1.6 million passengers. In the reporting period, Dubai, Yerevan, Punta Cana, Istanbul, and Verona led in terms of passenger traffic growth. In 2017, 304,000 passengers flew these routes departing from Moscow Domodedovo Airport - a 42.9% increase year-on-year.
In January-February 2017, cargo traffic grew 11.2% year-on-year and amounted to 20,900 tons.
