Domodedovo Joins Top 5 Major European Airports in Terms of Growth
According to the 2014
report prepared by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), Moscow
Domodedovo Airport is in the top five in terms of passenger traffic growth
among European airports. In the last year, passenger traffic at Moscow
Domodedovo Airport increased by 7.4% compared with 2013.
ACI Europe represents more than 460 airports in 45 European
countries with a total passenger traffic of more than 1.7 billion passengers.
ACI Europe member airports handle over 90% of all commercial air traffic in
Europe.
In 2011, Moscow Domodedovo Airport became the
first Russian airport to join Europe's largest hubs with annual passenger
traffic exceeding 25 million passengers. According to the classification used
by ACI Europe, other members of the group are aviation industry leaders, such
as London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam Schiphol, and others.
In 2014, the passenger traffic handled by Moscow
Domodedovo Airport was 33.04 million - the highest in Russia and Eastern
Europe.
Constantly improving, Moscow Domodedovo Airport
is implementing a number of major projects to expand terminal space and develop
airport infrastructure. Construction of the second segment of the passenger
terminal that began in 2014 will increase the capacity of the airport and
create a comfortable environment for passengers. Reconstruction of the second
runway to be completed in 2016 will increase the supported number of takeoffs
and landings up to 45 per hour, while the total capacity of the airport will
reach 90 takeoffs and landings per hour.
In 2014, Moscow Domodedovo Airport was once
again nominated the best airport in Russia and the CIS, becoming the winner of
Skytrax World Airport Awards.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is Russia's largest aviation
hub. In 2014, the airport handled 33.04 million passengers. According to
Skytrax rating, it is the best airport in Russia and the CIS. Members of the
world's leading airline alliances - Star Alliance and oneworld - have chosen Moscow's Domodedovo International
Airport for their flights to and from Moscow.
